Named “Best Art Event” in the region by readers of Virginia Living magazine\, the Festival offers activities and entertainment for the whole family. \nAnchored by an antiques market and an award-winning juried arts and crafts show\, the Festival includes live music\, historical re-enactments\, fine art and photography competitions\, performances\, creative writing workshops\,?guided nature hikes\, and numerous activities for kids. \nThe Festival\, over the past seven decades\, has grown in scope to represent all of Southwest Virginia. Now it not only preserves the arts\, crafts\, and skills that developed in this region\, but it also imports talented artists and performers from around the world for creative exchange and the enjoyment of area residents and visitors. \n \n\n\nFestival Overview\n\n\nHeld in Historic Abingdon and the surrounding area\, the annual Virginia Highlands Festival offers juried fine art and crafts\, antiques\, performing and literary arts\, music\, local history\, the great outdoors\, and fun for kids of all ages! \nParking & Transportation\nAmple parking is available in the Festival lots off I-81 exits 14 (Antiques Market/Washington County Fairgrounds & Heartwood) and 19 (Roses/Wolf Hills Shopping Center). Free shuttles run to Festival sites and to Abingdon?s Historic District from these lots from 9:30 AM-6 PM. \nFestival Information Booth\nThe Festival Info Tent is open daily 10 a.m. ? 6 p.m. at Barter Square by the Juried Arts & Crafts. Make this your first stop for daily updated Festival schedules\, general information about the Town of Abingdon\, and recommendations for travelers. \nTickets\nAdmission to Arts & Crafts is free\, but we would greatly appreciate a $1 donation per person as you enter. \nAdmission to the Antiques Market is $5 per day or $20 for a ?season pass\,? cash only at the entrance gate. \nTickets for events at Barter Theatre are available at the Barter Box Office: (276) 628-3991. You can purchase a few apples or bushels of fresh locally grown apples.
