SUMMARY:Art on the Greene - Banner Elk\, NC
DESCRIPTION:When: \nMemorial Weekend \nJuly 4 10-5 \nJuly 5 10-5 \nBanner Elk’s popular Art on the Greene series continues in 2026 with shows four weekends of the summer. The shows fill the area in front of the Historic Banner Elk School with fine art from local and regional artists representing a variety of media\, such as ceramics\, glass\, metal\, wood\, watercolor\, acrylics and oil. Over 60 juried artists display their work at each event.  “Every show has a little different mix of artists\, so there’s always a variety\,” says Banner Elk Tourism Director Nancy Owen. “And artists are chosen by a jury of their peers. All work has to be a certain quality and it has to be handmade. We look for really high-quality art.”  Mountain Momma Organics will be at the Festival for Memorial Weekend and Fourth of July weekend this year. \nThe artwork is complemented by the beautiful setting located right in the middle of downtown Banner Elk where you can also visit restaurants and retail shops.“It’s a nice amenity for the Town of Banner Elk on these four summer weekends” Owen says. “It gives people something else to do\, it’s outside and people are always amazed at the quality of art.” Booth rental proceeds from Art on the Greene go toward preservation of the Historic Banner Elk School\, which is maintained by the Town of Banner Elk. The 1939 rockwork school is home to the B.E. Artists Gallery\, Banner Elk Book Exchange\, Ensemble Stage professional theater and a yoga studio. \nArt on the Greene has no admission fee for shoppers\, rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Old timers marvel at the freshness of each year’s offerings\, as memories from long ago festivals are revisited. Unlike most festivals our lighting system allows us to continue into the night.  This fun filled event is designed to promote and stimulate interest in the arts. It provides the opportunity for all to see\, hear\, and learn from over 150 artists and crafts people who actively demonstrate and display their art.   Make sure youy visit Mountain Momma Organics with their strictly organic healthy artisan pantry foods. \nNearly a thousand entertainers provide free ongoing performances at the main band shell and many stages surrounding it.  Festival in the Park was selected as one of Southeast Tourism Society’s Top 20 Events. In past years\, Festival in the Park has also been chosen as one of Sunshine Artists Magazine’s 200 BEST festivals.  In years past\, visitors to Festival in the Park typically exceeded 85\,000 each year.
